TWO seasons ago Blackpool went to Brentford's Griffin Park stadium and lost 2-0.

Despite the result being the same this time around, the two performances were light years apart.

Pool Manager Steve McMahon summed up the game as an excellent performance which just didn't produce the result it deserved.

He said: "We were superb today all round, we just didn't finish it off, especially Brett and Graham Fenton.

"We outplayed them for much of the game and had chances.

"I was happy standing there watching us play, I actually liked what I was seeing."

But results are what matters in football and two 2nd half goals from Brentford's Steve Sidwell and Lloyd Owusu gave the League leaders all 3 points.

Pool welcomed top goalscorer Brett Ormerod back into the side along with James Pullen in goal after both were rested on the bench in Tuesdays LDV Vans victory over Mansfield.

The home side created a lot of the early pressure with Burgess, Powell and Dobson all having chances in the opening 10 minutes.

Brett Ormerod went close to opening the scoring for Pool on 11 minutes.

Following a Brentford corner, Pullen claimed and threw the ball out quickly, the ball came to Ormerod who beat 2 defenders before firing a shot in which went close but was deflected for a corner.

From the resulting corner, Simpson had a shot at goal which was saved by the Bees Icelandic keeper Olafur Tottskalksson.

The second half settled down Blackpool and the Seasiders were clearly on top and looked the far more likely side to score.

Graham Fenton headed a superb cross onto the top of the bar, but in doing so collided with the goalpost and had to be replaced by John Hills.

Still Blackpool pressed with both Hills down the left and Bullock down the right creating chances galore, but Ormerod was well shackled by the Brentford defence and had little chance to shine.

But Brentford survived at two goals at the end of the game sealed the points. With about 25 minutes remaining Brentford grabbed their first with a superb 30 yarder that gave Pullen no chance. In the dying minutes the otherwise excellent Reid was dispossessed on the edge of the box, and Brentford added an undeserved second.
