IT was a tale of two penalties, one given and one not, as Rossendale United made a swift exit from this season's FA Umbro Trophy.

The UniBond First Division side were up against it before the game even started as nine of their first team squad were unavailable for selection.

Despite this they totally dominated the first half.

Craig Sargeson, who was again forced to play out of position, had two good attempts in the opening half hour, and it was the goal poacher who had his standing leg taken from under him on 35 minutes as he was about to give Dale the lead.

The official, who was only ten yards from the action, waved away the penalty appeals and the home side escaped.

Bedworth came more into the game after the break and Billy Carrington pulled off a wonder save to deny Partridge from close range on the hour.

The tie turned decisively for the Midlands outfit on 76 minutes as Patmore went down under a challenge from Carrington.

The official pointed to the spot, and Patmore dusted himself down before giving Bedworth the lead.

Dale threw everything forward to try for an equaliser and the inevitable second came on the break in the final minute, Partridge having time and space to pick his spot and slot home.

In truth Dale blew this tie in the first game, throwing away a 2-0 lead, through goals from Sargeson and one from Mark Patterson, and just one win in nine matches is a worrying slump in form for Jim McCluskie's men.
