TOM Ansbro (Letters, October 31), could not have hit the nail more precisely on the head than in his remarks concerning the recent antics of our traffic experts.

The concentrated conglomeration in Oakenhurst Road, Blackburn, of all the infuriating impediments to progress known to mankind could have been devised and executed only by the spiritual descendants of that once highly-popular team of comedians, the Crazy Gang.

It would appear that to qualify as a traffic expert, you must produce documentary evidence of being car-phobic and cyclophilous.

In connection with the latter, it astonishes me that in the recent improvements in progress on Preston New Road, there appears to be no provision for the accommodation of the merry throngs of cyclists blithely pedalling up the cycle lane in Montague Street and turning left at the top to continue their exhilarating journey Preston-wards.

They are thus at the mercy of such car-driving menaces to civilisation as Mr Ansbro and I -- a regrettable oversight, needing immediate corrective action.

T LONGSTAFF, Gorse Road, Blackburn.
