REGARDING J Buckley's condemnation of "selfish, able bodied drivers" who park in disabled bays (Letters, October 25), as a motorist who covers a wide area, I see quite a lot of disabled badge holders parking in ridiculous places. I have yet to see, however, a holder of such a badge who actually seems to need it.

This is what frustrates the average motorist. Mr Buckley's frustration should be aimed at those who hold these badges unnecessarily.

I often see "disabled" drivers in the mother-and-child places at the supermarkets as well as in loading bays -- spaces as are needed to help workers earn the taxes to pay for the 'bad back brigade.'

I am sure there are people who legitimately hold these park-anywhere-for-free permits, but I would suggest they are a minority. Do doctors hand these badges out to anyone with a sob story? One group which should be given these badges are pregnant women, who, often laden with shopping and having to walk 200 yards to their cars past row upon row of disabled bays whose occupants are probably strolling around shopping.
