WE now have signs in Lancaster directing motorists to the Parksafe Mitre House car park may I suggest to the planners a much shorter route for drivers approaching from the North which would also help stop the congestion through the city.

Remove the access only from North Road to Damside Street and re-position the traffic signals outside the bus station to the bottom of Bridge Lane. This would allow for light vehicles to have access to the car park and St George's Quay without blocking the one-way system in town. It would also allow delivery vehicles to Sainsburys to filter onto Cable Street, again avoiding the centre.

It would be relatively cheap, (certainly compared with the cost of twice laying kerb edgings and removing them in Chapel Street for the cycle lane) I realise this system may stop the congestion and foul the plans that there is need for a by-pass.

It would certainly not have the same cost and would be easy to implement.
