A LOCAL group is celebrating after they were awarded a BT community award.

The Sunnycrest Community Resource and Learning Centre, Pennine Road estate, Bacup, has been awarded a computer with one year's access to the internet.

The group is one of 54 in the North West to receive a BT community connections award.

They plan to use the Internet to allow local people to research subjects of interest to them as well as building on some of the current IT training.

It could also give them the opportunity to create a web page for the centre.

Derek Allen, community worker for the project said they were delighted with the award adding: "The internet ready PC will allow many people access to the internet in an informal setting and will be of of great use to us in producing newsletters and publicity information."

Lesley Corkhill, BT regional manager, said: "This scheme aims to give as many people as possible access to the internet and allows groups to develop their projects using easier and more effective methods."
