REGARDING the proposal that 40 residential homes for the elderly in Lancashire should be closed and 13 refurbished, mostly to accommodate those with dementia, the hope is that most other elderly people will remain in their own homes.

The Woodlands day centre in Clayton-le-Moors will remain closed to many old people due to lack of space. About 100 persons are catered for there, averaging 25 a day, seven days a week all year round.

This means we elderly will be confined to our own homes, relying on relations, if we have any, to attend our needs -- shopping, etc.

Some of us need help to walk, others have loss of memory and other are incontinent. Obviously 40 homes will not go into 13 so where are the rejected to go?

I see there is no question of cutting refugee applications, but why bring such people into the country when there is no room for our own?

This is supposed to be a caring country, run by the people for the people. But which people? I ask. Not us, evidently. The people in authority who want to close these homes will be old and feeble one day like us. So be warned: Your time will come.
