POLICE in Hyndburn today warned residents to keep their doors locked at night after reports of burglaries at houses where doors were left unlocked.
A cordless digital telephone, valued at £60, was taken from a house in Dill Hall Lane, Church, but the youth fled after being disturbed by the occupant's dog.
The boy was described as white, 16, 5ft 6ins, with dark hair and wearing a pale coloured jacket.
Another burglary, by three men, was carried out in Sydney Street, Clayton-le-Moors, on Wednesday. Coats were taken from wall hangers close to the door and left outside but a black leather wallet with gold lettering and a key fob with two keys were taken from one of the pockets.
DS Jim Elston said: "It is basic good crime prevention to lock doors at night and keep keys away from the door. People in this vicinity need to lock their doors as it appears people are systematically trying doors until they find one that is insecure."
