I WRITE in response to Mr John Jolley's letter (Citizen, April 18):

Who is this jolly little man?

Attacking folk where 'ere he can?

Since Viking times of rape and pillage,

Hutton has always been a village.

Our Grammar School through not a crammer.

Is simply one that teaches grammar.

Our village hall, our pride and joy,

Is used by many a girl and boy.

By garden club, history group, artists too,

Dancers, marital artists and party-goers who,

Just want to enjoy village life and its history.

Why anyone should moan is a bit of a mystery.

When Cockersands Abbey owned our land,

A chapel was built down by the sand.

Though this is long gone, we're not left in the lurch,

We're happy to share the Longton church.

If you'll just have a look in the Oxford tome,

You'll find that a church doesn't define your home.

We who live in Hutton are proud it's rural.

To support our pride the reasons plural.

We're certainly not urban, that's always been felt.

We're on the other side of the defining green belt.

If you can't come and live here, don't feel too bad,

But we all think, dear John, you're jolly sad.

Alan and Barbara Baller,

Hutton 'Bogus' Post Office,

& Village Store
