HOLIDAYS abroad have made conservation-conscious Brenda Walton aware of the work going on to help the planet - and the little effort made here in comparison.

After visits to globe supporting Canada and Australia, where visitors can see climate changes killing off the rain forests, Brenda, from Atherton, is an avid recycler, saving all her old newspapers, bottles and tins to put to better use. But the bugbear is that she has to deliver them herself to collection points at local supermarkets.

Like many people she has a car and is able bodied enough to carry out the task herself, but many others can't.

She says she's disgusted that councils here don't do more to help with recycling.

I see old newspapers being collected from homes in the Westhoughton area, and I've often wondered why the same isn't done here? All a matter of money I suppose - unless someone knows differently.
