PRIME MINISTER Tony Blair swept into East Lancashire today and saw how £4million had transformed a community.
Mr Blair saw first hand how regeneration cash had been spent in the Bank Top area of Blackburn, transforming run-down houses into modern homes.
After visiting Blackburn, where he told a press conference in King George's Hall Labour would focus on the "nitty gritty everyday issues" which matter to people across the country in the run up to next week's local council elections, he went on to visit the North Technology Centre in Nelson to chat to NVQ students.
He was accompanied by Foreign Secretary and Blackburn MP Jack Straw and Housing Minister Lord Falconer.
He also praised Blackburn with Darwen Council for jointly winning the recent Council of the Year award.
In an exclusive interview with the Lancashire Evening Telegraph before his arrival, the Prime Minister spoke about the controversial plans to close 35 of the 48 Lancashire County Council care homes -- 19 of them in East Lancashire.
And he warned people not to vote for the BNP in next week's local elections.
