SINCE your feature (LET, March 30) on my posting to Ghana, a lot of people have expressed interest in Voluntary Service Overseas.
I would point out, though, that the amount of the allowance mentioned in the article was misleading. The monthly allowance is approximately £70 -- to cover food, local travel and everyday expenses. This is in line with the earnings of local people doing similar work.
However, don't let this put anyone off! The non-material rewards are great -- and VSO needs more volunteers.
