BURY Council's drive to encourage motor traders to join its Fair Play Charter is gathering speed.

Sunnybank Halt in Tottington has become the eighth company in the borough to sign up to the scheme.

Councillor Pam Walker, public protection spokesman, said she was extremely pleased with the growing number of companies who are joining.

"Traders commit themselves to comply with a range of terms and conditions set out by trading standards staff which are designed to benefit customers," she said.

"In return, trading standards provide support and training to dealership staff to help them meet customer satisfaction requirements.

"It always pays potential buyers to shop around, but if they see the Fair Play Charter logo being displayed, there is extra assurance when dealing with the company concerned."
