COLNE professional Charl Langeveldt wants to follow up his super first-day display against Accrington with more wicket-taking in the Transco Lancashire League double header this weekend.

Colne travel to title hopefuls East Lancs tomorrow and are at home to Rawtenstall on Sunday.

And after an eight-wicket haul in the season's opener last Sunday, Langeveldt - and his team mates - are looking forward to even bigger and better things.

"I was really chuffed with Sunday because the conditions were difficult," said the right-arm fast medium bowler.

"I was pleased to take eight wickets but I was just thinking about helping the team and getting over the conditions out there."

Langeveldt said the conditions were much slower than in his homeland, South Africa.

"You just have to wait a bit longer," said the Boland player. "It's a bit different to back home, a lot different actually!

"You have to bowl a yard fuller but it didn't take that long to adapt. The batting will probably take longer than the bowling to come. It will take time."

Figures of eight wickets for 16 runs and 45 with the bat proved that Langeveldt didn't need long to adapt, albeit against last year's wooden spoonists who finished the day in the embarrassing position of bottom of the league with minus one point.

They were docked a point for their slow over rate.

Langeveldt - who has already been nicknamed 'Charlie' by his teammates - hopes to do as well tomorrow against his Boland team mate, the East Lancs pro Con de Lange.

"I'm looking forward to playing against him.

"He's a good bowler and he can bat as well. It might take him a bit of time to get used to the batting though."

And he comes up against compatriate Andrew Hall when Colne face Rawtenstall on Sunday.

"I know him from the South Africa A side. There are five or six South Africans from the A side over here and I'm sure we'll all be getting together soon after a game.

"I still haven't unpacked yet though. I still have to find my feet!"

But the 27-year-old said he liked what he had seen so far at the Horsfield.

"They are a great bunch of lads, I enjoyed playing with them, they want to win.

"They're a well-balanced side with good bowlers. We just need to pick up the batting although Gary Hunt looks like a good batter. There are some good all-rounders too."

Trevor Lonsdale, the club chairman, was delighted with Langeveldt's performance.

He said: "It was a tremendous bowling performance and he got 45 with the bat too. He was run out and that wasn't his fault.

"We are very optimistic, I think he'll do well, he played at Blackpool in a friendly on Saturday before the first game of the season and he impressed me then as well.

"I was umpiring and he really makes them play every ball which is a good thing.

"He'll do really well, it's put everyone on a bit of a high, everyone's really up for it now.

"Tomorrow will be the big test."
