I WAS fortunate not to have read Sue Archer's earlier controversial letter regarding parking spaces for parents of young children (I had been too busy looking after my children!). Her letter obviously provoked a strong reaction.

However, in reply to her second letter (April 12) I simply want to say that as the mother of three children under the age of five, I have always found that the parking spaces reserved for parents with young children are positioned in the safest parts of car parks so that crossing through the traffic is kept to a minimum. I'm sure that even Ms Archer would agree that the safety of children is more important than an extra 30-second walk for a capable adult. Improving road safety can hardly be called "molly coddling".

I personally applaud the authorities who provide these facilities and would not like to see a return to days gone by when mothers and children were seen as second-class citizens in this country. Ms Archer really ought to exercise a little more tolerance and maybe then she would save herself such heartache over supermarket car parking.
