A YOUNG man, said to have had 17 packages of drugs ready to sell on, has been cleared.

Bilal Patel was found not guilty of possessing crack cocaine and heroin with intent to supply by a Burnley Crown Court jury after a two-day trial.

Patel, aged 20, of Oswald Street, Blackburn, who had denied the allegations, was discharged from the dock by Judge Raymond Bennett.

The jury had heard claims that Patel was seen by police to swallow 13 cling film wraps of cocaine and four bags of heroin after they stopped a car, in which he was a passenger, in Blackburn.

It was said he had been taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary, where he later "passed" the packages.

When the defendant, who claimed he had just eaten some sweets, was interviewed by officers, he made no comment.
