WHILE a lot of publicity has been given to the proposed closure of old people's homes, not enough people are aware that the county council and Social Services are proposing to shut some day nurseries in Pendle.
The plan is to shut the day nurseries and open up family centres and includes people coming into parents' homes to help out.
As a single mother of a three-year-old, I think all parents will agree that at some stage you need a break away from the children.
All the jobs you find hard to do with the children under the feet, such as shopping or the housework, are a lot easier while they're at nursery.
But if someone comes into your home to help, then where's the break?
The council and the Social Services think they can shut the nurseries quietly. Well, they're wrong and we will fight to change their minds.
