A TODMORDEN councillor has failed in his efforts to create new jobs in the town.
By just one vote the development committee refused planning consent for Shackleton Salads to change from wholesale to wholesale and retail.
Coun Myra Townley expressed her concerns about the likely increase in the number of heavy vehicles coming to Shackleton Salads on the Canteen Mill industrial estate, causing traffic disturbance and confusion to other estate users.
But Coun Joe Rez said there were very few small businesses in operation and the council should be encouraging this enterprise. He argued that there was a car park nearby.
