BURNLEY fans have been crowned the UK's dimmest people by a TV show to find the IQ scores of the nation.

Around 95,000 people logged on to the internet to take part in BBC1's Test the Nation quiz, which was hosted by Anne Robinson and Phillip Schofield on Saturday night.

People could also test their own IQ with a pen and paper or via interactive TV and groups of people, from students and teachers to builders and blondes took part in a studio test.

Among those taking part were football fans.

The average IQ of the Burnley FC supporter came out as 76 -- well below the average score of 100 and a far cry from the 138 scored by West Bromwich Albion supporters who came top of the league.

A score of between 90 and 110 indicated average intelligence, more than 110 points was in the highest 25 per cent of people and anyone with a score higher than 130 was among the top two per cent of the population.

In the battle of the sexes, men scored higher than women with 111 compared to 104, while left handed people scored 109, slightly higher than right handed people with 108.

Aquarians came top of the astrological chart scoring 110 with Scorpions coming bottom with a score of 106

The grey-haired generation topped the hair colour stakes with an average IQ score of 113 and blue-eyed inhabitants of the UK scored 109, marginally beating the brown-eyed with 108.
