A MUM and her ten-year-old son needed hospital treatment for smoke inhalation after a chip pan fire at their home.
Firefighters from Bury were called to the house in Cross Lane, Radcliffe, at 10pm on Thursday (May 9).
It is believed a chip pan had burst into flames shortly after the woman and her son had gone to bed.
The woman smelled smoke and used a damp towel to extinguish the flames. The ground floor of the house was filled with smoke.
Firefighters gave the family oxygen before they were taken to Fairfield General Hospital for further treatment. They were allowed home shortly afterwards.
A spokesman for the fire service said: "The woman did the correct thing by tackling the chip pan fire with a damp cloth.
"However, there was no smoke alarm in the house so if the fire had gone unnoticed any longer, then the incident could have been more serious."
