THE police station in Rawtenstall is getting a £150,000 face-lift to guarantee its future for the next 30 years.

Longridge builder Walter Carefoot is carrying out the work, which includes converting the flat roof into a pitched, installing new windows and redecorating the interior.

Lancashire Constabulary's property services manager Steve Hodkinson said: "The station was built in 1974 and the flat roof was coming to the end of its life span."

Two companies are considering redeveloping Rawtenstall town centre, but Mr Hodkinson said: "We are quite happy to remain where we are and have had no approaches to redevelop the premises."
