A FAMILY has launched a legal action against an East Lancashire holiday company after an accident at the same hotel where a youngster drowned last year.

The family of ten-year-old Anna Moores claim she slipped on winding marble steps leading up to her family's room at the Hotel Ilios in the Greek resort of Kos. She broke two bones in her foot.

Dad Carl described the steps as hazardous. claiming they were too narrow with no handrail. And he said it was just one of a catalogue of health and safety issues at the hotel.

He has now instructed solicitors to pursue a personal injury claim against Rossendale-based holiday firm Airtours, now known as MyTravel.

The hotel is the same hotel where three-year-old Kirsty Wright drowned last October. The youngster, of Pilmuir Road, Blackburn, slipped into the hotel's spa pool.

Airtours launched an internal investigation and introduced tighter safety measures including a locking gate on the spa.

Coroner Michael Singleton recorded a verdict of accidental death at an inquest last year.

Parents Lee and Linda Wright are still considering civil action against the company. Airtours also booked the holiday for the Moores family, of Helvellyn Drive, Burnley.

A spokesman for the company today confirmed a letter had been sent to its legal department by the family's solicitor but could not comment further.

Parents Carl and Janet took St Mary Magdalene's pupils Anna and Andrew, six, on holiday in May. Towards the end of the holiday Anna slipped on the steps and was taken to the local hospital although not put in plaster as it would have meant staying in hospital an extra two weeks. Carl said: "Janet is a qualified nurse and although we didn't know at that time it was broken, we had a good idea.

"Her foot was strapped up but she was in agony. The flight home was awful for her because her limbs swelled up."

When they arrived at Manchester Airport, Carl took Anna straight to Burnley General where a scan revealed two broken metatarsal bones -- the same injury sustained by David Beckham -- and she was placed in plaster. Carl said: "Anna was supposed to be in a dancing competition the week after but had to pull out.

"She said she does not want to go abroad again after this.

"Those steps are dangerous. If that was in this country it would be against health and safety."

Solicitor John Miles, of Forbes, in Blackburn, is dealing with both the Moores'claim and the Wright family.

He said: "I find it somewhat more than coincidental that the two serious holiday claims for personal injury involve the same hotel out of all the resorts it could be.

"It suggests to me that there is a major problem with this particular hotel. There is a genuine safety issue for holidaymakers to which they should be made aware before they go.

"From what Mr Moores has told me and from happened to little Kirsty Wright, it is evident to me that there are fundamental health and safety problems at the hotel."

Nobody at the hotel was available for comment.
