COMMONWEATH Games fever came to Lancaster this week as the Queen's Jubilee Baton made its way through the city just two days before the opening ceremony in Manchester.

Crowds flocked to the A6 and King Street shortly after 3pm on Monday.

Workers left the shops, while others braved the pouring rain to get the best position.

Kendal man Colin Hill took on the 500-metre stretch from the top end of, receiving the baton outside the Farmer's Arms hotel.

Cheered on by his family, Colin, who has competed in the triathlon for England and appeared in the hit TV show SAS - are you tough enough? Set off towards the north.

Shortly before setting off, Colin told the Citizen: " Somebody must have nominated me to take part in the relay - but I have no idea who!"
