MINISTER for Work and Pensions, Makerfield MP Ian McCartney visited Sure Start Shakerley, Tyldesley, to meet new mums due to benefit from an increased maternity grant.
The Sure Start Maternity Grant, which can be claimed by parents on low incomes to help buy essential items for new babies, has increased to £500 for babies born on or after June 16, 2002.
The grant is intended to help parents give their children a positive start in life and does not have to be paid back.
