THE Bulldogs may be underdogs with the bookies - but not with the Centurions writes Mike Hulme

"Looking at the recent results of both clubs, you've got to admit that they've done far better than us," admits Leigh coach Paul Terzis.

But Leigh, and Terzis, can only see one winner. "We'll be in the Grand Final," he declares.

The winner of Sunday's Major Semi-Final goes through to meet Huddersfield in the Grand Final at Widnes on October 6. There are no more second chances.

"We know exactly what's at stake. We've been here before and know what to expcet and how to approach it. It's all uncharted territory for Batley.

"In the last two years we've tasted semi-final victory and semi-final defeat. I know which I prefer and I know the players are determined not to fail at this stage," added Terzis.

Without question Batley are the surprise package of the play-offs, coming through from a lowly league placing to know over Doncaster, Featherstone and Oldham.

"Of course we respect them for what they've achieved," admitted Terzis. "But we're in our own back yard and want to finish our Hilton Park season in the best possible fashion."

Terzis points to half backs Glen Tomlinson and Widnes-bound Dean Lawford as the pair who pull most of the Bulldogs' strings but is equally impressed by the no-nonsense style from the 'Dogs pack. "They are an uncompromising lot who will need to be taken care of," he says.

Leigh are still sweating on the fitness of half backs John Duffy and Bobbie Goulding who were both carried off in the play-off defeat at Huddersfield two weeks ago.

Duffy is given a 70-30 chance of playing after making good progress from bruised ribs but Goulding is still only 50-50 after being badly concussed.

Terzis will not declare his line-up until match day but has confirmed that skipper Adam Bristow will return to the starting 13 after missing the Huddersfield defeat through suspension.
