THE public must know how their Council Tax is being wasted.

At Regent Park a few years ago, the public toilet block and shelters were knocked down.

Two changing rooms and a disabled toilet were built on the end of the caf.

The changing rooms were supposed to be used with the all-weather court with a charge of £17 per hour.

The changing rooms and showers have never been used since they were built and the disabled toilet is often awash with water and toilet paper.

At Happy Mount Park they have notice boards of a £25 fine for cycling in the park.

At Regent Park there's warnings against cycling, horses, golfing or playing football on the greens but nobody dare say a thing to those that break the rules.

Those who use the bowling greens properly are the only ones who run the risk of being challenged as the park wardens come down each day to check you've paid for your ticket.

The hundreds who used to use the facilities regularly have now gone elsewhere because of the state of the greens - all this is lost revenue to the council.

One green has a 12ft wide area ruined by youngsters with no respect for property.

The other green has to be closed for four weeks during the season as tons of sand is applied to help control worms - a policy that is failing miserably.

It's not rocket science is it?

On 28 February Paul Cocker said at Morecambe Town Hall that the 'book stopped with him' if the new contractors failed to give satisfaction.

Wouldn't it be better to get an outside contractor in?

All the grass verges are full of worms and they are spreading to all the other greens now! I've tried to get hold of the top man at the town hall, John Donnellon, but get fobbed off with somebody else.

Happy Mount Park had floodlights around the bowling green.

How many times will they be used when the park is closed at 7.30pm when the dark nights appear?

Cllrs Fretwell and Day seem to push and get what they want for Happy Mount Park, come on Councillor Robinson and Councillor Tattersall, give us some support at Regent Park.

"The pen is mightier than the sword," I hope this letter proves that point.

KC Baines, Regent Park Bowling Club.
