EAST Lancashire MP Greg Pope flies out to the United States a week tomorrow to meet top United Nations and Washington officials over the war on terrorism and the possibility of military action against Iraq.
The Hyndburn Labour back bencher will be on a delegation from the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee.
The six-day trip begins with a visit to the UN headquarters in New York, where he hopes to meet either Secretary General Kofi Annan or the organisation head of peacekeeping Negra Ponte.
They then fly on to Washington to meet senior administration officials and top figures in the American Foreign Secret Service, the Central Intelligence Agency.
Mr Pope said: "It's very important as we stand on the brink of war that the Commons Foreign Affairs Committee finds out the American position and whether there are any differences between the US and the UK. We can then inform the British Parliament of what is happening."
