A SUSPECTED gas leak forced the closure of one of the main roads into Blackburn over the weekend.
The A677 Preston New Road was closed from the Windmill pub to the turning for Mellor from Saturday lunchtime until Sunday morning after the suspected leak was reported to Transco, the firm which maintains gas pipes across the UK.
They diverted traffic through Mellor village, causing congestion late into Saturday evening before reopening the road once they had carried out repairs.
