A PENSIONER who indecently assaulted a Leigh teenager on a bus was being hunted by detectives today.

The 17-year-old girl, who has not been named, boarded the number 19 bus heading towards Warrington at Leigh bus station at 3pm on Friday. She sat at the back of the bus and an elderly man who had also got on at the bus station sat near her. Police said he performed an indecent act in front of her before assaulting her.

The girl got off the bus in Warrington Road, but her attacker stayed on board. He is described as white, stocky, aged 75 to 80, with short grey hair. He was clean shaven and wearing a flat cap.

Det Con Cath Greer, of Leigh CID, said: "From the things the man said to the girl, we believe he uses this bus service on a regular basis and would like to appeal to any drivers on this route, or passengers, to see if they recognise his description." Anyone with information is asked to contact Leigh CID on 0161 856 7254 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
