AGE Concern in Darwen is in urgent need of volunteers to help provide a befriending service to lonely and socially isolated older people.
The charity wants people who live in Darwen to visit someone at home and provide friendship.
Christine Nuttall, volunteer co-ordinator for the charity, said: "We have ten people in Darwen waiting for this much-needed service in the Bolton Road, town centre, Richmond Terrace, Dove Lane and Ribble Avenue areas of the town.
"A befriender really does provide a very valuable link to the outside world to a person who otherwise might not see anyone at all.
"Just a couple of hours once a week can make all the difference to a lonely older person. We know what a community minded, friendly place Darwen is and feel sure that people will help us if they can."
