LANCASHIRE County Museums Service has been chosen to work as 'First Partner' in the new North West Regional Museum Hub.

The partnership is aimed at developing and transforming museums across the region.

The North West Hub is one of nine in a new national framework for regional museums and galleries.

It was recommended in the 2001 Regional Museums Task Force report Renaissance in the Regions. The Government has allocated £70m over four years.

It will support regional museums and the first phase of the proposed restructuring will be introduced in the new year.

Initial 'pathfinder' Hubs will be announced.

As members of the Hub, the various museums will work across the region.

The aim is to transform museum services for residents and visitors.

They are set to capitalise on their role as centres for learning.
