CLITHEROE moved into the last 32 of the Carlsberg FA Vase with a convincing win at home to Midland Alliance team Studley.

Despite going behind after just four minutes to a well-taken shot from Crisp, the home team kept their nerve and replied with an all-action display.

Studley were uncompromising and constantly broke up the Clitheroe pattern of play with niggling fouls and blatant infringements.

Lee Cryer equalised midway through the first half after Lee Buggie, in the side through illness to Cryer's recent forward partner Gary Jackson, picked the ball up on the right of the box and expertly chipped the ball to Cryer to head in.

Wave upon wave of Clitheroe attacks should have brought another goal, but Cryer, Buggie and Chris Whittingham squandered chances.

It took a foul by the keeper on Buggie inside the box, and a fine penalty by Mark Stewart, to give the home team a 2-1 lead on the stroke of half time.

They extended their lead a minute into the second half when Cryer notched his second from close range after good work by Whittingham.

This totally demoralised the Midlands team and Clitheroe began to overrun them.

With 15 minutes to go two players from Studley were sent off after words with the referee over a free kick decision.

With only nine men on the field it was no shock when Clitheroe scored again from a blistering Whittingham drive.

So Clitheroe went into today's national draw looking for a home tie and the chance to give their passionate fans 'Vase Fever' once again.
