POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an 87-year-old woman's home was burgled while she was watching television.
The pensioner was at her home in Rugby Avenue, Accrington, at 7.30pm on Sunday, when a man forced a ground floor window. He confronted the woman and asked her for money.
He searched the bungalow and stole £200 cash and jewellery. Among the haul was a gold watch with a white face, worth £200; a set of necklace, bracelet and earrings made from a blue stone from New Zealand, which police say is unusual; and costume jewellery.
DS Paul Broxson of Accrington CID said the woman had not been able to provide a description of the man because she was too shaken.
"This is a sickening act on a particularly vulnerable old lady."
Anyone with any information or who may have seen anyone suspicious in the area should call Accrington CID on 01254 353741.
