Bury 1 Kidderminster 1 by Chris Hall

SHAKERS' succession of unwanted Christmas presents continued to be unwrapped at Gigg Lane yesterday.

After a dour draw with Rochdale and their Boxing Day blues at Shrewsbury, Bury's festive cheer was dealt a double blow in their clash with Kidderminster.

Another point may have left them still comfortably in the play-off positions but it failed to lift them into the top three and was scant reward for a performance which dominated their negative and blunted opposition.

A Jon Newby strike, inspired by the again menacing David Nugent, helped to rouse the game from its dormant state after Bo Henriksen had put the visitors in front from the spot.

But the match ended with heartbreak for midfield ace Terry Dunfield, whose tenacity and desire to set up another attack led him to slide into the advertising boards in the 92nd minute and injure the same shoulder which kept him sidelined for a month earlier this season.

"It looks like his shoulder has been dislocated again," said manager Andy Preece.

"He has looked pretty strong since coming back over the past few games but that's what can happen when you go sliding into the boards.

"It's obviously a tremendous blow to lose Terry again and we will just have to see how long he needs to recover this time. He came back quicker than expected last time he did it and we just have to hope he recovers as quickly again."

Dunfield was again at his incisive and tackle-skipping best, weaving his way around a sodden pitch, which needed an official inspection an hour before kick-off before being passed fit to play.

He, Lee Unsworth and the returning George Clegg in his first game since injuring his knee against Bolton three months ago completely bossed the midfield.

Newby was limited to a couple of half chances in the opening period, which he should probably have caused more damage with, while Preece was left the thankless role of target man, providing nod downs from hopeless long punts.

Once Henriksen slotted home the opener, after being bundled over in the box needlessly by Steve Redmond, something had to change and 17-year-old striking sensation Nugent once again pushed his case for a regular start by outpacing his marker to reach a Billy through ball.

After haring some 30 metres to get his foot to the ball, he would have been forgiven a blast from inside the box. But he showed maturity beyond his years to spot the unmarked run of Newby, who lashed home for his 11th of the season.
