A MAN was arrested after ram raiders targeted a cash point at the sub post office in Trawden today.

Police said a car was reversed into the window of the Rock Post Office in Church Street at 3am.

Norman Rushton, 58, husband of sub-post mistress Patricia, said: "We were awoken to the sound of someone breaking in.

"The thieves just attached a rope to the cash machine and then pulled it away using some sort of vehicle.

"They obviously knew what they were doing because they were in and out in two minutes flat."

The vehicle was later seen by police patrols in Burnley.

A police spokesman said: "The occupant ran off and was apprehended. He is now helping police with an investigation into the raid."

Detectives were due to interview the suspect later today.
