PLANS to build stables in Barnoldswick have been met by opposition from neighbouring residents.

The plans have been recommended for approval despite fierce opposition from a number of neighbours who want to block the plans from getting the go-ahead.

They claim plans to build three stone faced bay stable blocks with a hayloft at Roughs Barn, Salterforth Lane, Salterforth, do not fit into character with the development.

Two letters of objections have been sent to the council from residents living in nearby James Street, and 17 individual objections.

The letters state several reasons for objecting to the proposals which include spoiling views, the land not being big enough to graze three horses, the smell from horse manure, an increase in noise and movement, and traffic generation

The objectors say the original application was turned down on highway issues because the area is well known for being an accident hotspot.

Planners are recommending to approve the application because of its good design as required by Pendle's Local Plan.

A number of conditions have been placed on the proposals, including all external materials should match those of Roughs Barn in terms of size, shape, thickness, colour, thickness, colour and texture.

In order to prevent the pollution of water, a scheme for the containment and storage of manure shall be submitted and approved by planners. The premises have been restricted to domestic use only.

The application is to be discussed at West Craven Committee on January 7.
