A BABY was injured and a man cut free from the wreckage of his car after two separate accidents at the same junction in the space of three hours.

The 18-month-old child was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary after the car being driven by his father, Stuart Flynn, 25, of Shadsworth Road, Blackburn, was in collision with another vehicle at the junction of Whitendale Crescent and Pringle Street, Blackburn.

The accident between Mr Flynn's Rover Coupe and a Toyota Carina driven by Ilyas Patel, 41, of Whitendale Crescent, happened at 1.15pm.

The baby was taken to hospital suffering from bruising to the head and was later released.

At 4.15pm a J-registered black Vauxhall Astra collided with a white Proton driven by Masood Adam, 35, of Audley Range, Blackburn.

Police said the driver of the Astra did not stop and left Mr Adam stuck inside his vehicle.

Two fire crews were called and they spent 30 minutes using hydraulic cutting equipment freeing him from his car.

He was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary where he was treated for bruises and minor injuries before being released.

PC Gary Taylor, of the road policing unit based at Accrington, said: "The driver of the Astra did not stop even though there was extensive damage to his vehicle.

"We recovered the vehicle about half a mile away from the scene but obviously the driver was no longer with the car.

"We are now asking for anyone who might know who the vehicle belongs to - maybe it was new to the driver - to contact us so we can identify who was driving at the time."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Taylor on 01254 353767.
