NELSON might easily have had this game sewn up by half time but for some outstanding saves by Mechanics keeper Stuart Barton.

When Carl Howarth opened up the home defence after 20 minutes Sean Burnsell looked sure to score, but Barton denied him with a brave dive at his feet to block the shot. Then on the half hour Paul Sconce released Carl Howarth with a chip over the defence, but Barton saved well from Howarth's well-struck shot.

With half time approaching Andy Haworth's through ball was completely missed by Mechanics defender Matthew Snowdon and Carl Howarth was left in the clear, but this time his shot was deflected wide of goal by the keeper's outstretched feet.

Nelson had to work harder in defence in the second half as Blackpool came back at them and Blues keeper Billy Carrington made some vital clearances from high crosses into his goalmouth.

However, Chris Livesey headed over the bar from Danny Whittaker's goal line cross. Carl Howarth had two more efforts deflected wide of goal and Steve Bursnell was denied a penalty when brought down in the area as Nelson continued to create a series of chances which they were unable to convert.
