IN reply to John Shorrock's remarks on traffic congestion spreading from Blackburn town centre to Ewood (Letters, January 20), there really is not a cure for this problem, because since the new orbital route was opened, trying to pull on to Bolton Road from any side street is dangerous at best and impossible at worst.

The council have not had a thought for the residents of any side street, trying to get to work, to the shops, or just to go about their business.

And as for the new route over the bridge from Bolton Road down to King Street, I wonder if any of the planning officials have had as many idiots, including some in police cars, cut straight in front of them without looking on the last two bends outside the old Clay's warehouse, as I have, while taking my child to nursery, or at any time of the day.

Will the council or the planning office put up 'Stay in lane' signs, or paint lines on the road, or, at the very least, tell the road-using voters that this road is one or two lanes?

I dread the day that someone pulls into the side of my car and the road gets blocked.

TONY MARKS, Kirby Road, Blackburn.
