IAN Dixon (Letters, January 17) says fluoride is a toxic and corrosive industrial waste product known to have serious health risks, including genetic disorders, premature ageing and, most worryingly, as an intellect suppressant.

I'm beginning to wonder if those we have voted in, to supposedly represent our views, have been quaffing down this evil substance as I cannot think that anyone with a balanced mind would advocate its use in our water supply to improve dental health.

Mass medication is totally, illegal, as far as I'm concerned. Whose brainchild is this? Most European countries have now banned its use. Why? Anyone who wishes can use fluoride tablets which are available. But freedom of choice is paramount. I do not wish fluoride inflicted on me.

United Utilities are renewing old pipes and ploughing thousands of pounds back by installing new plant to ensure we have the purest and highest-quality water.

New health trusts are debating whether to add poison to it.

It's beyond belief, given all the evidence available from the European countries which now ban it.
