PLANS for a modern flats complex on the site of Heysham's historic Grosvenor Hotel are set to be put before planners.

And local people are being reminded that they can have a say in the planning process.

A plea to list the building as of architectural or historic interest was rejected last year - and developers are now planning a luxury apartment complex on the prime seafront site.

The plan is for a modern six or seven storey block of flats in red and orange brick with a white metal roof.

But hopes remain that the developers will reconsider and reuse part of the existing building.

One suggestion is that the faade of the hotel could be retained, with the new building accommodated inside.

Cllr Pat England, a member of the council's planning committee, says she is keen to hear the public's views.

"Local people are allowed to speak at the planning committee and they can come and listen to the discussions," she says.

Residents can also write to chef planning officer Andrew Dobson at Palatine Hall, Lancaster LA1 1PJ, with their views.

The Grosvenor plan is likely to come before the council's planning committee in the next month.
