A TEENAGER took his mother's sports car and crashed it while he was supposed to be babysitting, a court was told.

Burnley Magistrates heard how Stephen Scott Taylor, 19, hit a fence in the Toyota MR2 and later told police he had been stupid.

Taylor, of Walton Street, Colne, admitted aggravated vehicle taking, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, not having insurance and failing to stop after an accident. He was bailed until February 12.

The court was told the defendant's mother went out on Saturday, leaving him in charge of some children.

The keys for her car were in the house. She was contacted at about 11.30pm and told the car had been involved in an accident in Colne.

Taylor told police he had panicked and run away.
