NADEEM Sadiq, 21, of Brookfield Street, Blackburn, was ordered to take a drink-impaired driver's course as part of an 18-month community rehabilitation order after pleading guilty at Blackburn magistrates to two offences of driving with excess alcohol.

He was also banned from driving for three years and fined £250.

Sadiq gave readings of 87 in blood against the legal limit of 80 and 51 in breath against the legal limit of 35.

Basharat Ditta, defending, said on both occasions Sadiq had thought he was fit to drive.

"It is fair to say he has shown a degree of naivety in these cases," said Mr Ditta who revealed that his client had been studying law and politics at university before taking a gap year.

"Perhaps it is time for him to get back to his studies so that he can keep out of mischief," said Mr Ditta.
