A COURT heard how a terrified teenage girl pushed herself against a wall as a van mounted the pavement and came speeding towards her.

Blackburn magistrates were told that the girl was "frozen to the spot" as the van hurtled towards her and two friends walking in Hollin Bridge Street, Blackburn.

And Lisa Worsley, prosecuting, said that the driver shouted "Soz mate" before speeding off.

Daniel Stephen Farrell, 22, of Fawcett Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving with excess alcohol and without insurance.

He was remanded on bail for the preparation of pre-sentence reports with a warning that all options would be open to the sentencing bench.

Ms Worsley said the girl and her friends were walking along Hollin Bridge Street at about 9pm when she saw the van travelling towards them behind another car.

"She noticed the van because it was trying to overtake the car," said Ms Worsley.

"It swerved, mounted the kerb and was heading straight for them. The girl was terrified and jumped back to push herself against the bridge wall. She was frozen to the spot and when the car had gone it was all she could do to ask her friends if they were OK."

Ms Worsley said another motorist witnessed the incident and followed the van, taking the registration after it had come to a halt nearby.
