A £3,000 burger van was destroyed after it was engulfed in flames during an early morning arson attack.
Firefighters were able to salvage two propane gas cylinders from the blazing Ford Transit but could not save the vehicle from being destroyed.
The arson attack happened at 3am on Friday (Jan 24) when the fast food van was parked in Deal Street, Bury. Fire crews fought the blaze for an hour.
Bury-based Station Officer Paul Myserscough said: "Because of the two propane cylinders, it was quite a risky fire. They got quite hot but we were able to get them out in time."
The mobile burger van had been parked near the home of local resident Mr Chris Bracken. He had been asked by the owner of the Ford Transit, who lives nearby, to carry out work to enable it to pass its MOT.
Mrs Bracken's wife, Lesley, said: "I heard two explosions and bangs and discovered the van was on fire. The van had actually been off the road for 12 months. My husband had been asked to do work on it for its MOT."
