A SEAT at Ewood Park has become the most expensive in football history -- at £10,000!

But fans will not have to worry about price increases at Rovers as the ticket was bought for the whopping price in a one-off school fundraising auction.

Construction company bosses Eddie Fitzpatrick and Michael White, former pupils at Mount Carmel RC High School which held the auction to raise money for its bid to achieve special college status, bought the ticket for the match against Southampton on February 8.

The pair run EDM Construction in Leyland. Operations manager Michael said: "Eddie's wife works in the library at the school and his children will be going there.

"Other staff members here are ex-pupils too so it's in everybody's interests to support the school.

"As a Rovers fan I think £10,000 is worth every penny."

The ticket was originally bought for £20 by school governor Anthony Dobson who wanted to try something different to raise funds. He said: "We believe this is a world record as the most expensive football seat ever. Everyone's extremely happy."

Rovers chief executive John Williams said today: "I'd just like fans to know we have no intention of putting up seat prices to £10,000 in the immediate future!"

The sale means the school has now raised the £50,000 needed to submit its bid. Headteacher Katrina Ryan said: "We've done it. The bid is complete and we are just tickling some of the details.

"It's rare school's bids are passed the first time but it will be great if ours is."

Much of the £50,000 raised by Mount Carmel came through sponsors in the form of school governors, local business people and individual donations.

It will submit the special science status bid next month.

If successful the school could be recognised as a specialist science college for the new school year in September. The application to the Department of Education and Skills would secure a £100,000 Government grant to develop the school's mathematics and science facilities.
