PRESTON'S Graham Nash finds it hard to walk down the street without being recognised.

But he's no film star or pop idol. Instead he's just notched up his latest win on the cult television show Countdown.

The supermarket boss took his place on the puzzle game, hosted by Carol Vorderman and Richard Whiteley, and beat off brainy competition to scoop the top prize.

The former Kirkham Grammar School pupil's skills were put to the test as he added and subtracted and figured out the famous Countdown conundrum.

Graham said: "I feel brilliant to have won, on top of the world actually. I sat down with all my friends and family and watched it at home. It's a really good feeling."

Graham, 23, of West Park Avenue, Preston, filmed the show in November, but had to wait until Friday, January 24, to see the finished item on the box.

His brush with fame saw him pitted against the best 16 entrants over the last four years, and challenged to solve Countdown's tough questions in maths and spelling.

But it's not the first time that Graham -- who works as a night manager for Tesco, Wigan -- has appeared on the show.

In 2000 he first appeared on the show while studying at university in Nottingham and went on to win that final as well! But he's loved every minute of the tough quiz.

He said: "I have been recognised already, in a bank. People are always nice and it's quite fun to see their reactions.

"It's a good laugh. Everybody on the show is dead friendly and make you feel at home. They're really nice, and buy you a drink in the bar afterwards.

"Richard Whiteley is a really nice bloke, and Carol Vorderman really does it all in her head, without a calculator!"
