AS the song says. . . sisters will be doing it for themselves at Gigg Lane on Saturday when Bury FC holds it's first ever Ladies Day writes PHIL THORP.

The home match against promotion rivals Oxford United has been so designated by the Shakers to launch a partnership between the club and Bury Girls and Ladies FC.

It's all part of the Nationwide League's Supporters of Tomorrow scheme and begins a number of initiatives designed to promote women's soccer in the town

Around 200 young players and parents from the girls' side will be guests of the Shakers for the game.

Meanwhile, members of the ladies team will be handing out leaflets and holding a bucket collection to raise funds for their club.

Bury Girls and Ladies FC have been in existence since 1996 and boast more then 100 players in teams ranging from under 10 to open age.

They regularly field teams in both the Lancashire League and Cheshire League and, as part of the new arrangement, Bury FC personnel will coach the Girls and Ladies section while players from the women's team are to go into schools as part of the Bury FC coaching programme.

For their part, the female footballers are sponsoring Shakers defender Colin Woodthorpe for the rest of the season and will provide ball girls for the Oxford game.
