FIRE chiefs have warned residents about the dangers of unattended candles after a fire in Nelson last night.
Officers were called to a house in Reedyford Road at 9.30pm. On arrival they found a television set had been set on fire by a burning candle.
Sub Officer Mark Woodward said: "When using candles you must make sure that they are not placed on anything that can melt or is combustible and they should not be left for long periods unattended."
"A smoke alarm also played a part in preventing further damage.
"A young man in the house heard the smoke alarm from upstairs and managed to raise the alarm."
No-one was injured in the blaze.
But the family cathad to be given oxygen by firefighters at the scene.
