RESIDENTS in Vivary Bridge ward in Colne are being encouraged to get involved in a clean-up campaign to encourage pride in the area.

The Council's Neighbourhood Pride Officer Nasreen Khanam will be joined by ward councillors to encourage residents in the ward to come out and help clean up litter and other debris between 11am and 2pm on Saturday, February 8, starting at Primet Hill Community Centre, Colne.

Residents in the ward are being encouraged to avoid leaving bin bags outside their homes in advance of their collection days and to ask for help from the council for the removal of unwanted bulky items.

Free skips will be sited in the ward on the day of the clean-up for residents to deposit unwanted bulky items. Residents will also be offered black bin bags to put any excess litter they may have.

Nasreen said: "We are really trying to encourage residents in certain areas to take responsibility for keeping their neighbourhoods clean and tidy.

People need to remember to put out their bin bags only on their collection day and not before and if they want to throw out other household items, they should contact the Council which provides various free collection services."

To check your collection day or to get more information on the collection of household waste, please contact the Council's Operational Services on 01282 661743.

Further clean-ups are planned in various locations in the coming weeks, including Southfield ward on Saturday, February 22.
